If Madhouse's Redline is a "flashy action ride", then Dead Leaves is a "nuts-to-the-wall flashy tripped-out action ride on speed". The movie's high-contrast comic book-like visuals had me expecting something unique, but I don't think I could properly have prepared myself for just how unique Dead Leaves turns out to be.
Dead Leaves is an anime that will have you stuck to your seat the entire time, the sheer amount of action in the film is like an adrenaline rush that takes you there so fast it’s like being on a rollercoaster ride.
Dead Leaves is an insane thrill ride of violence, sex and dirty jokes. I would suggest that most everyone involved in creating this masterpiece of madness might be well-versed with hallucinogenics. Forget deep plots and morals, DL has just enough story to set up the next insane sight gag, sex joke or event of ultraviolence.
When Pandy and Retro awaken naked with no memory of the past, they quickly embark on a wild and violent crime spree before being captured by authorities and imprisoned in the infamous Dead Leaves...

Dead Leaves is the perfect spooky fall read and I enjoyed all nine tales. The stories that stood out the most to me were Someone to Carve the Pumpkins, Tonight the Moon is Ours, The Toll and The One Night of the Year. This is one of those books where I need to go back through and underline my favorite passages because there are many.
